HACAN summarises the consultations on Heathrow
Ruth Cadbury is asking our views on Heathrow.
For the last 28 years the BCC has opposed the progressive expansion of Heathrow. We gave written evidence against the 4th terminal and we collected an extensive survey when the 5th terminal was at inquiry. This was presented for the BCC by Ruth Cadbury and myself to the inquiry.
Ruth then led a consortium of local authorities opposed to further exoansion.
When she was seeking election as an MP she was asked a specific question "If your party put a three line whip on a motion in the house of commons to support a third runway would you vote against it? And she answered "yes"
We hope all BCC members will ask her to hold to that commitment.

An increasing number of people are exposed to aircraft and road traffic noise.
Hypertension is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease and even a small
contribution in risk from environmental factors may have a major impact on public
health. The HYENA study aimed to assess the relations between noise from aircraft or
road traffic near airports and the risk of hypertension.
